Sursangam, one of the leading Indian classical music and dance institutes in the state, is organising their annual festival “Sursangam – Dance and Music Festival”. The festival will be celebrated on September 17th and 18th at The Pragjyotish ITA Centre, Machkhowa with a two-day programme. On September 17th, along with the new-age-old students of music and dance of Sursangam, internationally renowned Kathak dancers Marami Medhi, Meghranjani Medhi and classical musician Joyprakash Medhi will also perform.
In line with the festival, a special preparation of Sursangam titled “Devi” will be performed. This one-and-a-half-hour dance-drama will be performed in Kathak Dance form. For the first time, “Devi” has been prepared by combining Kathak Dance with various Assamese folk music. This was stated by Kathak dance guru Marami Medhi at a press conference held at Sursangam. The two forms of the goddess are played by Kathak nrityagana and actors Meghranjani Medhi and Sunita Kaushik. The screenplay and music of the dance drama are designed by Bhaskarjyoti Ojah.
“Devi” has been directed and choreographed by Guru Marami Medhi. Those who want to enjoy the “Devi”, which will be staged from 6 pm on September 18th, can either ensure a preferred seat in the bookmyshow.com or collect tickets from Sursangam’s office at Chandmari, the organisers said. On the other hand, a book titled “Kathak” by Kathak Guru Marami Medhi and Tabla player Debashish Talukdar will also be released at the event on September 18th. This book, which is rich in theoretical and practical teachings of Kathak dance, has been prepared for the Kathak students, said Marami Medhi.
