BJP chief and social media influencer Sonali Phogat was allegedly given the recreational drug methamphetamine by the accused at Carlisle Beach Shack restaurant, Goa police said on Saturday.
Phogat has declared brought dead on the morning of August 23 when he was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna in the North Goa district where he was staying. While initially alerted that the Haryana BJP leader had died of a heart attack, after his family pressed for an investigation, an inquiry revealed that he had been drugged the night before he died in a famous nightclub.
The contemporaneous announcement by the Goa police comes after two more people were arrested in the murder case, taking the total number of arrests to four, including his managers Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhvinder Singh. Both were taken into police custody for two days.
Earlier in the day, Curlie’s restaurant owner, Edwin Nunes and a businessman named Dattaprasad Gaonkar were arrested. According to reports, Gaonkar supplied the tablets to Phogat’s two companions who fed them to him.
