Sikkim kicked off its Ranji Trophy 2024-25 campaign with an emphatic 137-run victory over Mizoram at the Sikkim Cricket Ground, Mining. Defending a target of 297, Sikkim bowled out Mizoram for 160 on the final day of the four-day match. After opting to bowl first, Mizoram restricted Sikkim to 191 runs in 70 overs in the first innings, with Nilesh Lamichaney top-scoring for Sikkim with 50 runs. Mizoram’s leg-spinner KC Cariappa starred with the ball, claiming seven wickets for 69 runs.
In response, Mizoram was bundled out for 163, conceding a 28-run first-innings lead. Agni Chopra and KC Cariappa both contributed 51 runs each, but Sikkim’s medium pacers Palzor Tamang (4/32) and Bhim Luitel (3/26) were instrumental in keeping the opposition in check.Sikkim’s second innings saw an improved batting effort as they posted 269, setting Mizoram a target of 297. Parth P. was the standout performer, narrowly missing his maiden century with a knock of 97. Cariappa continued his form, taking another five-wicket haul, finishing with match figures of 12 wickets.
Mizoram’s chase crumbled early, with key batters dismissed cheaply. Though Cariappa fought back with a defiant 75, Sikkim’s bowlers quickly wrapped up the innings, taking the final three wickets in just nine balls. Parth P. was named Player of the Match for his vital 97 in the second innings.
