Siaha District plans to advance disability rights on World Disability Day

The DC Office Chamber hosted a meeting of the Siaha District Level Committee on Disability. The conversation, which was conducted by District Commissioner VL Hruaizela Khiangte, concentrated on the significance of respecting and defending the rights of individuals with disabilities as specified in India’s Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016. Commissioner Khiangte underlined that everyone with a disability should have equal rights and access. In accordance with the RPwD Act’s mandate, he urged government organizations, educational institutions, medical facilities, houses of worship, and the general public to enhance accessibility.

Khiangte asserts that these actions are necessary to promote an inclusive atmosphere in which everyone’s rights are acknowledged and protected. A representative from the District Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs Office, LS Lalbiakzuali, gave an update on ongoing programs to assist Siaha’s disabled population at the meeting. The committee talked about possible ways to improve services and resources for individuals with disabilities, stressing the value of working together with government agencies, local NGOs, and community leaders to raise awareness and support.

The group declared plans for Siaha to commemorate World Disability Day on December 3, 2024, as part of its dedication to these objectives. The day will include events aimed at increasing community involvement and public knowledge of disability rights. The Siaha District Level Committee on Disability hopes to guarantee a more accessible and encouraging environment for all people with disabilities through these continuous initiatives.
