Shutdown in parts of Srinagar

A strike was observed in parts of Srinagar on Friday over controversial comments made by two ousted BJP leaders against the Prophet Muhammad.

Most shops and businesses were closed in the old city area, known as the heart of Srinagar, and the city center of Lal Chowk.

Security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas of the city and elsewhere in the valley to maintain law and order.

Protests were held in several parts of Srinagar last Friday against comments made by now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and the party’s former Delhi unit media chief Naveen Jindal Nabi Mohammad.
