A dry spell in Bollywood after the success of Bhul Bhulaiya 2 on July 15 saw the release of two major movies – Rajkummar Rao’s HIT – The First Case and Taapsee Pannu’s Shabaash Mithu. Despite a decent star cast and an interesting story, both the films failed to impress the audience. They are currently fighting around a foot in field office collection. In Shabaash Mithu, Taapsee Pannu plays the role of Mithali Raj, the former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team. The biopic opened to favorable reviews. However, Opinion failed to attract more viewers to the theatres. After the first day collections were dismissed, the film’s dry run didn’t seem to end. On the 4th day, Shabash Mithu barely makes any numbers.
Shabaash Mithu had a poor third day at the theater as its first day series stood at around Rs 0.40 crore. On Day 3, the movie picked up by a margin and collected around Rs 0.60 crore, taking the total collection to Rs 1 crore. However, on day 4, it again witnessed a big fall. The film barely collected any cash as its one-day box office collection was Rs 0.18 crore. Hence, the entire series will now be Rs 1.75 crore as per initial estimates. Shabaash released alongside Mithu Rajkummar Rao and Sania Malhotra starrer Hit: The First Case. While the Rajkummar Rao film ensured a leap, Taapsee’s stellar overall performance failed to pull people towards the cinema halls.
For the film, Taapsee Pannu had to train hard to portray the part. She offers a remarkable performance as Mithali. In an earlier interview, Taapsee quoted that she took inspiration from Shah Rukh Khan in Chak De to motivate herself at some stage of shooting Shabaash Mithu. Shabaash Mithu was once directed through filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee and written by Priya Aven. The biopic is a coming-of-age story of women’s cricket in India through Mithali’s lens.
On the work front, Taapsee is also coming up with Shahrukh Khan’s Danki. This will mark her first relationship with King Khan.
