In a significant step towards enhancing public safety in one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most landslide-prone regions, the Anini Police has officially set up a dedicated Traffic Wing to manage increasing road accidents and traffic disruptions caused by frequent landslides in the Dibang Valley district. With the region witnessing recurring natural disruptions that often block key roads and create confusion among residents and commuters, the new traffic unit has been established to bring greater clarity, coordination, and preventive measures to the district’s traffic management system.
According to a release from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Dibang Valley, the Traffic Wing will focus on enforcing traffic laws, improving road safety, and offering real-time information to the public about road closures and re-openings. The move is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring smoother vehicular movement through vulnerable stretches, especially during monsoons. Sub-Inspector Sahwney has been appointed as the Officer-in-Charge of the newly created Traffic Police Anini and has taken charge with immediate effect. Under his leadership, the wing will also coordinate closely with key infrastructure agencies such as the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) to monitor road conditions and relay timely updates.
A key feature of this initiative is the launch of a dedicated Traffic Helpline, which will serve as a direct line of assistance for residents, travelers, and emergency responders. Officials said that this helpline will help reduce misinformation and improve response times during sudden road blockages caused by landslides. Beyond reactive measures, the Traffic Wing will also undertake proactive safety drives, awareness campaigns, and continuous monitoring of road conditions in critical zones. The police believe these steps will collectively reduce the number of accidents and better equip the district to handle natural disasters that impact transportation.
