Seminar Organised to Discuss Possible Impacts of the Kaladan Project and Bairabi–Sairang Railway Line

A seminar was conducted at Government Siaha College to discuss the social, cultural, and economic effects of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) Road and the Bairabi–Sairang Railway Line. Chief Guest S. Lalremtuanga, Deputy Chief Executive Member of MADC, highlighted the dual nature of development, advocating for awareness of both benefits and drawbacks. He underscored the need for preparedness in the Lai and Mara districts and the importance of coordinated efforts among government bodies, churches, NGOs, and the public to mitigate potential adverse effects and protect community life and culture.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Abraham Beirazi Khithie emphasized the necessity of advance preparations and a mindset shift to maximize local benefits from the expected economic activities. Zomuana, a resource person, provided an in-depth presentation on the impacts, which led to a question-and-answer session. The seminar was organized by the Committee to Study the Socio, Cultural and Economic Impact of the KMMTTP and the Railway Line, supported by local administration and NGOs. The event concluded with addresses from Smt. Femina Hlychho and Zorinsangi.
