Sahara Group founder Subrata Roy passes away

Subrata Roy, the founder of Sahara India Pariwar, breathed his last in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 14. He left the world at the age of 75. The founder has been suffering from a prolonged illness which led to his death.

He was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute(KDAH) on 12th Nov 2023 and succumbed to cardiorespiratory arrest due to complications arising from metastatic malignancy, hypertension, and diabetes and gradually a sudden decline in his health led to his death. 

Roy was a renowned personality in the Indian business landscape, having established a huge empire that led to expansion of various sectors including finance, real estate, media, and hospitality. He entered into business in UP’s  Gorakhpur before taking over Sahara Finance, a struggling chit fund company, in 1976. By 1978, he had converted it into Sahara India Pariwar, which would grow to stand as  one of India’s largest conglomerates.
