Russia-Ukraine war: A Student from India killed in Kharkiv shelling

An Indian student has died in Russian shelling in Kharkiv this morning, the Ministry of External Affairs stated today. The scholar was once identified as Naveen from Karnataka’s Haveri.

“With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian pupil lost his existence in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We carry our deepest condolences to the family.”

Further, Bagchi wrote: “Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent protected passage for Indian nationals who are nevertheless in Kharkiv and cities in different hostilities zones. Similar motion is also being undertaken through our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine.”

Reacting to the news, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis wrote: “Terrible news. Deepest condolences to the family of the Indian student. The awful consequence of an unprovoked invasion by means of an autocracy.”

While Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, “This is an lousy tragedy. My heart goes out to the household of the sufferer and the anxious families of all those still caught in Ukraine. We should do the whole thing viable to get them home.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai known as up Naveen’s household and presented condolences. He consoled the family and informed them the authorities was once doing everything to get the body back.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pressed the Indian Air Force into service to evacuate Indian nationals stranded in the war-torn country, sources said.

On Monday, the Centre decided to ship four Union ministers to Ukraine’s neighbouring countries to in my view oversee and coordinate the evacuation exercise.
