The much-awaited Rukminigaon flyover in Guwahati will be inaugurated on July 6 by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Aimed at easing traffic between Dispur and Six Mile, the 650-metre flyover is expected to reduce congestion in busy areas like Ganeshguri and Beltola. Built in just nine months, it showcases rapid infrastructure development under the current government. CM Sarma announced that both the Rukminigaon and Supermarket flyovers will be named Bhagadatta II and Bhagadatta I, honoring the ancient Kamrup king, following demands from the Kalita community. While the project is seen as a major step in improving urban mobility, it has drawn criticism from environmentalists over the loss of greenery and lack of compensatory afforestation. The inauguration will see participation from top officials, local leaders, and residents, marking a key milestone for the city.
