Reviews by the Arunachal Deputy CM 2,880 MW hydropower project in Dibang

Chowna Mein, the deputy chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, examined the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project on Sunday and emphasized how it could greatly improve the state’s infrastructure and energy supplies in addition to spurring economic growth. According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the project would make use of the vast hydropower potential in the state. Mein stated that the state administration has effectively restarted a number of stalled electricity projects under the direction of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, transferring them to a number of Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) for comprehensive and expedited development. The project’s advancement was greatly aided by the local youth and communities, according to the Deputy Chief Minister.

According to Mein, who also owns the Power and Non-Conventional Energy Resources portfolio, the Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project is more than just a power plant; it is an opportunity generator that will benefit the state’s citizens by promoting economic growth, increasing tourism, and enhancing connectivity. On March 9, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the project’s foundation stone in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley area. At an estimated cost of around Rs. 31,875 crores, the Dibang project will be the nation’s tallest dam. The project will feature the highest concrete-gravity dam in India, standing 278 meters tall. It is planned to be constructed with the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) technique, and it will be the highest RCC dam in the world.
