Rare Lord Brahma sculpture found in Unakoti district during excavation

Villagers in the Bhuiyapara area of Kailashahar Sub-division, Unakoti District, have uncovered an ancient sculpture of Lord Brahma during development works on January 21. Unakoti, a renowned archaeological site dating back to the 7th–9th centuries, is famed for its Shaiva rock carvings and natural beauty. The discovery has drawn significant attention, with large crowds gathering to view the relic.

Kailashahar Sub-divisional Magistrate Pradip Sarkar stated, “The idol was found during groundwork and has since been moved to the Unakoti District Magistrate’s office for preservation. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been notified for further investigation.”

Assistant Conservator of ASI Abhishek Kumar, Block Development Officer Pranoy Das, and other officials were present during the retrieval. In a formal letter, BDO Das emphasized the cultural and historical significance of the artefact, requesting immediate action for its preservation and documentation.
