Veteran Oriya film and theater artist Raimohan Parida was found hanging at his residence in Bhubaneswar’s Prachi Vihar location on Friday, police said. He is 58 years old and is survived by his wife Parida and two daughters. His family found him hanging from the ceiling of his room in the morning. Initially, it appears to be a case of suicide but the same is under investigation, a police official said, adding that the body will be sent for post-mortem. Many actors visited Parida’s house to pay their respects and offer condolences.
Known for essaying negative roles, Parida acted in more than 100 Odia films and 15 Bengali films. He was a famous theater personality.
Popular actor Siddhant Mohapatra, who has played a role with Parida in countless films, said, “It’s challenging to think that such a cheerful person, who has been through so many ups and downs in life, could think of doing such a thing. He was very successful in his profession.” Another actor Sritam Das said it was shocking that Parida, who had become a “hero from nothing” could die by suicide.
Hailing from Keonjhar district, Parida acted in various hit movies including ‘Rama Laxman’, ‘Asibu Kebe Saji Mo Rani’, ‘Naga Panchami’, ‘Udandi Sita’, ‘Tu Thile Mo Dara Kahaku’, ‘Rana Bhumi’. , ‘Singh Bahini’, ‘Kulanandan’ and ‘Kandhei Akhire Luha’.
