The Congress Working Committee on Sunday announced the date for the election of the party’s full-time president. After this, senior leader Harish Rawat said that Rahul Gandhi will soon become the Congress president.
“Soon Rahul ji will be Congress president. We people of all parties hope and urge Rahul Gandhi to submit the Congress president,” Harish Rawat said on Sunday.
The Congress presidential election is scheduled to be held on October 17, with counting scheduled for October 19.
Rahul Gandhi resigned as Congress president after the party’s second consecutive defeat in the 2019 parliamentary elections.
Sonia Gandhi, who took over the reins of the party again as president during the intervening period, also offered to stop in August 2020 after a public outcry by a section of leaders, referred to as the G-23, but the CWC urged her to continue.
