Public transport continuity plan launched amid MCVU strike

Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga has issued a stern warning to the Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union (MCVU), threatening to cancel their permits if they fail to call off their strike. The Minister urged permit holders to review their commitment to the State Transport Authority’s (STA) orders, stating that non-compliance would lead to the invalidation of their permits.

In a meeting with officials from the transport and police departments, the Home Minister discussed arrangements to ensure public transport continuity, even if the MCVU proceeds with its strike. District Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been instructed to deploy additional personnel and provide security to non-striking transporters. Mizoram State Transport (MST) buses will also operate in place of city buses to minimize disruption.

Sapdanga further announced that two-wheelers and taxis will be allowed to ply in Aizawl without adhering to the odd-even rule if the strike goes ahead. He noted that several transport associations have opted not to support the strike, including the Mizoram Taxi Association and the Mizoram Truck Driver Association.
