Private schools in Manipur on Sunday registered a strong objection to a recent government order directing school authorities to stop the process for admission to new academic session for all classes.
Taking cognizance of some schools in the state notifying and starting admission process for new academic session for all classes, state education department, in an order passed on January 20 last, directed all the school authorities “to stop the process for admission to new academic session for all classes immediately till an appropriate decision is taken in this regard.”
The order maintained that the direction was given to maintain a uniform academic session across the state both for those affiliated to state board as well as CBSE. All Manipur Recognised Private Schools’ Welfare Association (AMRPWA) stated that the decision on switching uniform academic session was welcomed but it was against banning admission processes.
“We agree with government decision of switching uniform academic session. But, we disagree with the order asking to stop admission processes,” AMRPWA stated in a statement issued today.
The body of the private schools has also requested the state education minister to revoke the order citing that each year, normally admission and re-admission of students in the private schools starts two to three months ahead of the commencement of the new academic session.
The association also reminded a standing order of the education department asking all schools affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) to begin the academic session to commence from January of each academic year so as to commence the session from the same month and claimed that the same order was yet to be revoked or suppressed by the state government.
The association claimed that the private schools have started the admission and re-admission of the students as per a standing order of the state education department. At the same time, schools have taken up the process of admission and re-admission as a part of preparation for the session and commencing the session against government’s order did not arise.
The session will commence only after the clearance from the state government, the AMRPWA further stated while reiterating its objection to halting admission and re-admission processes.
