Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma has urged the Indian government to engage in dialogue with the interim government of Bangladesh to prevent attacks on minorities and indigenous communities in the neighboring country. In a recent Facebook post, Pradyot expressed his deep concern over the escalating violence against these groups in Bangladesh. He emphasized the importance of restraint, cautioning against making provocative statements that could exacerbate the situation.
“Attacks on minorities and our indigenous people living in Bangladesh have increased. This is deeply concerning, and I am sure the Government of India will have a conversation with whoever takes over the interim government. We must also be careful that no provocative statement is given from our side,” he stated. On August 5, Pradyot met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured him that India’s borders are secure and that no illegal influx would be allowed. The Union Home Minister is closely monitoring the situation and has instructed security forces to maintain heightened vigilance at the borders.
Pradyot also highlighted the potential impact of the unrest in Bangladesh on the bordering Indian states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and West Bengal. He urged the Central government to develop a contingency plan to address any future crises. “Tripura, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam will be on the front line of anything that occurs there. The Government of India must have a Plan B in case something happens now or in the future,” he warned.
