On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised political parties for engaging in a “game” over languages without doing enough to support them. He claimed that these parties didn’t want students from rural areas, low-income communities, or families from lower social classes to pursue careers in medicine or engineering.
He emphasised the difficulties young people from rural and low-income households experience in entering the medical field, saying that the BJP administration he leads has provided the option of receiving medical education in Indian languages, including Kannada.
