Households in Mizoram will gain access to piped natural gas (PNG) by mid-2028, as work progresses on a 119.5-km gas pipeline being constructed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) under the Northeast Natural Gas Pipeline project, which is 45% complete and expected to be finished by December 2027. The pipeline will connect Mizoram to the national gas grid, benefiting Aizawl and Mamit first. Completion of the pipeline up to Sihhmui in Tripura is targeted for March 2027, after which the Tripura Natural Gas Company Ltd (TNGCL) will initiate household connections. The project aims for full operational status by early 2028.
