PM Modi inaugurates Centre for Brain Research in Bengaluru

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the Rs 280 crore Center for Brain Research (CBR) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of the 832-bed Bagchi Parthasarathy Multispeciality Hospital during the event.

CBR has evolved as a one-of-a-kind research facility and focuses on conducting critical research to provide evidence-based public health interventions to manage age-related brain disorders.

The event was attended by Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, IT chief Infosys co-founder S Gopalakrishnan and family.

The Center for Brain Research was established as an autonomous, nonprofit research organization at IISC with a generous gift from Gopalakrishnan and his wife Sudha Gopalakrishnan, officials said.

The Bagchi Parthasarathy Multispecialty Hospital for which the foundation stone was laid today will be developed on the IISc Bangalore campus and will help integrate science, engineering and medicine at the prestigious institute.

The hospital is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2024.
