PM Modi celebrates Diwali with soldiers in Kargil

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Kargil on Monday morning to continue the tradition of spending time with soldiers at the country’s border. He has been regularly visiting border areas since 2014 when he celebrated Diwali with troops in Siachen in Ladakh.

During a conversion, Modi told the soldiers that, “Diwali means the festival of ending terrorism… Kargil did the same. In Kargil, our army crushed the seeds of terrorism and the country celebrated Diwali in a style that is still remembered today.”

“A country is secure only when its borders are secure, its economy is strong and society is filled with confidence,” PM said. “Just as you are protecting the border, we are also working to fight terrorism, Naxalism and corruption. The scope of Naxalism which once engulfed a large part of the country is steadily shrinking. The country is fighting a decisive battle against corruption. No matter how powerful the corrupt are, they cannot escape the law,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that war is the last option but peace is not possible without power. “We follow a tradition where war is considered as a last resort. India is always for world peace. We are against war, but peace is not possible without force… Our army has the capability and strategy and if anyone looks at us, our army also knows how to give a befitting reply to the enemy in their own language.
