Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukhopadhyay were arrested. They owned a joint property in Santiniketan. The two accused in the Bengal SSC scam case bought a joint property in 2012.
A document accessed by India Today showed that the farmhouse bought by the duo cost Rs 20 lakh.
Earlier in the day, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had initiated proceedings to freeze at least three bank accounts of Arpita Mukherjee, in which they found at least Rs 2 crore.
Several “shell company” bank accounts of Mukherjee are also under the ED scanner.
An ED sleuth said the agency would continue its probe to find out whether Mukherjee had any other bank accounts.
Sources said Chatterjee’s bank account is also being checked.
