PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline expired, check step-by-step guide

The last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is Friday, June 30, as per the latest notification from the Revenue Department of the Finance Ministry. To link the two cards, users will have to pay Rs 1,000.

The central government had earlier set the deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar as March 31, 2023 However, the date was later extended to June 30 After today, if someone fails to link their two cards within the deadline, their PAN will become inactive.

It is mandatory for all taxpayers to link their PAN number with Aadhaar. Capital markets regulator Sebi has also directed investors to link their PAN, a unique identification number for all transactions, with an Aadhaar number to continue trading in securities markets.

The Income Tax department has made it mandatory to link the two cards to de-duplicate the PAN database after seeing cases of allotment of multiple permanent account numbers to one person or allotment of one PAN card to multiple persons.

Here’s how you can link your PAN number with your Aadhaar card:

  1. Go to the income tax e-filing portal, i.e., Incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
  2. Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option.
  3. Submit your PAN number and Aadhaar card details in relevant cases.
  4. Verify your details and click Submit.
  5. You will get a confirmation message on the screen and an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number after successfully linking your PAN and Aadhaar.

It is mandatory for every Indian citizen to link their PAN number with their Aadhaar card except Indian citizens above 80 years of age, non-residents, and non-citizens.
