Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has accused Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the founder of the Tipra Motha Party, of “rambling” as he loses support in the political landscape. Chaudhury’s remarks came on October 24, a day after Pradyot suggested that the opposition leader could have faced electoral defeat had Tipra Motha fielded a candidate against him in the last Assembly elections.
Chaudhury, who also serves as the CPIM state committee secretary and an MLA, responded to Pradyot’s comments by questioning the effectiveness of his leadership over the past six years. He stated that despite ongoing discussions surrounding Greater Tipraland, a Constitutional Solution, and a Historical Agreement, tangible results remain elusive.
“In the beginning, Pradyot claimed ‘Community First, then Party,'” Chaudhury said in a video message. “However, these statements appear to be a manipulation of the emotions and aspirations of indigenous youth, whom he has long deprived of meaningful progress. While he enjoys the benefits of their support, leaders like him are now facing scrutiny and criticism.”
Chaudhury further asserted that as Pradyot’s support dwindles, he has resorted to “nonsense” rhetoric, warning that the affection and respect once afforded to him will soon turn into resentment. The ongoing political tension underscores the challenges faced by leaders as they navigate complex issues related to the indigenous population in Tripura.
