One year passes since SSR’s death: Still more questions remain than answers

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. A domestic help informed the police and a preliminary set of investigations followed on that day. Condolences started pouring in as the news of the actor’s death shocked the nation.

SSR’s father lodges an FIR at Patna’s Rajiv Nagar police station on July 29 2020, accusing six people of abetment to suicide. On the same day, Rhea Chakraborty demanded the transfer of investigation to Mumbai.

In early August 2020, CBI named Rhea Chakraborty, her father Indrajit Chakraborty, mother Sandhya Chakraborty, brother Showik Chkaraborty, Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda, Shruti Modi and unknown others in its FIR. They were charged under various IPC sections including abetment to suicide, criminal conspiracy, wrongful restraint/confinement, theft and criminal breach of trust. CBI formally took over the investigation.

NCB arrested Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik and SSR’s house manager Samuel Miranda in September, following which a Mumbai court sends them to judicial custody. NCB also arrested Rhea Chakraborty after three days of interrogations.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s flatmate Sidharth Pithani was also arrested by NCB, just a few weeks ago on May 28 2021, in the drug case related to the actor’s death.

Initially registered as a suicide case, the CBI was brought in to investigate the murder angle. The CBI so far has not filed any chargesheet in court. The many conspiracy theories that were floated in the days after his death surface every once-in-a-while on social media in the form of trending hashtags but have translated into nothing more.

There still remains more questions than answers.
