The Nav Jagrat Manav Samaj (NJMS), a non-profit organization based in Jamshedpur, is making significant strides in the fight against leprosy, with crucial support from Tata Motors. Dedicated to the prevention and control of leprosy, NJMS, alongside over 500 local volunteers including Tata Motors employees, has been instrumental in reducing the incidence of the disease in Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas.
NJMS’s impactful initiatives include an annual door-to-door survey, reaching 75,000 individuals for early leprosy detection. Over the past three years, this concerted effort has led to a remarkable decrease in cases from 1.5 to 0.5 persons per 1000 in Jamshedpur. The organization operates Antyoday Bhawan, providing free medical care, boarding, and lodging to over 4000 leprosy patients, while also supporting children’s education and livelihood opportunities.
Vinod Kulkarni, CSR Head at Tata Motors, lauds NJMS’s commitment, stating, “Nav Jagrat Manav Samaj embodies the true essence of compassion and resilience in their unwavering commitment to eradicating leprosy and empowering individuals affected by this disease. Tata Motors is humbled to support NJMS in this noble endeavor, recognizing their invaluable contribution to creating a leprosy-free society.”
