London Mayor Sadiq Khan has fired a grave warning to London commuters after five bus drivers died of the coronavirus. Mr Khan said he is "absolutely devastated" the transport workers, who are yet to be named, died after testing positive for Covid-19. It comes as 621 patients with Covid-19 died in UK in just 24 hours, bring the UK's official total to around 5,000 as of Sunday afternoon. In a heartfelt tweet, he said "lives depended" on people following Government rules to stay at home unless travel was essential.

North Korea remains totally free of the coronavirus, a senior health official in Pyongyang has insisted, despite mounting scepticism overseas as confirmed global infections near one million. The already isolated, nuclear-armed North quickly shut down its borders in January after the virus was first detected in neighbouring China, and imposed strict containment measures. Pak Myong Su, director of the anti-epidemic department of the North's Central Emergency Anti-epidemic Headquarters, insisted that the efforts had been completely successful. "Not one single person has been infected with the novel coronavirus in our country so far," Pak told AFP.

Coronavirus global toll crosses 35,000

More than 35,000 people have died worldwide from the coronavirus pandemic since it emerged late last year in China, most of them in Europe, according to an AFP tally at 1615 GMT Monday using official figures.
