Journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem was on Friday, 23 July, released from Imphal Central Jail. This comes after Manipur High Court had, earlier in the day, directed his interim release, saying, as per Bar and Bench, that his detention would be as much a "violation of Article 21 of the Constitution." The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is 68.68 per cent, the bulletin added. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Thoubal, Bandana Devi imposed curfew in the entire district to prohibit movement of people to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The DM also declared three areas of Thoubal district as containment zones to prevent the spread of the virus and also to facilitate intensive contact tracing and house to house surveillance and testing of primary contacts, officials said. An earthquake of moderate intensity hit Manipur on Sunday, according to the Earth Science Department of Manipur University.The earthquake of 5.1 magnitude hit Manipur at 4.16 pm, it said, adding that the epicentre of the quake is located 9 km from Ngopa area of neighbouring state of Mizoram. The tremor was also felt in the state capital of Meghalaya, the official said. There was no report of any casualty or damage to property in the any of the states.
