According to the company's chief executive, Serum Institute Of India has applied to the country's drug regulator and the health ministry for full approval of its Covid-19 vaccine Covishield. More than 1.25 billion doses of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine, branded as Covishield, have been given in India by Serum Institute. According to Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla, the Indian government now has enough data to consider a full approval. On Thursday Maharashtra confirmed that a 52-year-old omicron patient died of heart attack at Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital in Pimpri Chinchwad, but stopped short of calling him the first casualty of the variant and attributed the death to his health conditions. This highly infectious variant spread in two more states Punjab and Bihar and recorded highest single-day infections for the second consecutive day.
