Ahead of Lok Sabha polling third phase in Assam constituencies Assam Government has announced May 7 as public holiday on parts of the state. To notice said, all the Government/non-Government Offices, PRIs, urban local bodies, educational institutions, business and banks, tea gardens and industries, etc will remain close on May 7. Also the holiday is declared for Guwahati, Kokrajhar (ST), Dhubri and Barpeta only.

The Assam Government has banned madrassas and turned into general schools in Assam. AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal has promised to go against the decision of the government. During an election campaign he said that he will move to the Supreme Court to grant reopening of the closed madrassas in Assam. Around 1,281 madrassas were converted to schools. He said, "UP government announced the closure of madrasas and later, the Supreme Court condemned them. With this reference, we will go to the Supreme Court and get the order from there."

Oil India Private Limited at Dighaltarang Tea Estate in the Tinsukia District of Assam has recently reported leakage in the x-mass tree assembly on top of a crude oil well.
