New bill for Lok Sabha, 33% quota for women

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal inaugurated session of the Lok Sabha in the new Parliament building on September 19, 2023.

According to the sources, during the Lok Sabha session Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced by the Minister.

 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on being asked about the bill congratulated PM Narendra Modi and also referred to a historic day for the nation.

According to the Women’s Reservation Bill aims to secure a 33% quota for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, presented as the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill.

The Minister said, once the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is passed, the number of women’s seats in the Lok Sabha will increase to 181. This was the first item on the agenda for the Lower House in the new Parliament building during the five-day special session of Parliament.
