Nepal Aims for Energy Self-Sufficiency with New Hydropower Projects

Nepal has announced plans to expand its hydropower sector by constructing three major dams in the coming years. The new projects, located in the Karnali and Gandaki regions, are expected to generate an additional 1,200 MW of electricity. Nepal’s government aims to achieve energy self-sufficiency and increase electricity exports to neighboring countries, including India and Bangladesh. The initiative is also expected to create jobs and improve infrastructure in rural areas. With growing regional demand for renewable energy, Nepal’s hydropower strategy could position the country as a key energy supplier in South Asia.
