National level border talks on September 19

The long-standing border disputes are to be settled soon as Assam and Mizoram CMs are to hold a talk. The CMs have earlier discussed the meeting in August but now have come up with the final decision which is to be held on September, 19.

According to the sources, the meeting will be held in the national capital but the venue is yet to be decided.

The border disputes stem from two colonial demarcations of 1875 and 1933. Mizoram holds that in 1875 under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) 1873 509 square miles of the inner line of the reserved forest was notified, a certain part of which now falls in Assam, the actual boundary of the state.

According to the survey of the 1933 map, Under Assam is the constitutional boundary of the state, which now falls under Mizoram. On July 26, 2021, ugly violent clashes between the states began Since then, representatives of the state have been in the process of bringing peace to its people Several national level meetings have been held since last year.
