India’s Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi, inaugurated two facilities including a state-of-the-art semiconductor fab in Gujarat and a Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Facility in Jagiroad, Morigaon, Assam, through a virtual interaction, marking a significant milestone in the country’s semiconductor industry.
The foundation laying ceremony in Dholera was attended by Shri. Ashwini Vaishnav, Minster of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri. Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, Shri. Ankur Verma, President, Tata Sons, and Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Electronics. Shri. Himanta BiswaSarma, Chief Minister of Assam, attended the ceremony from Jagiroad in Assam, while Shri. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Jal Shakti attended the event virtually.
Tata Electronics is investing INR 1,18,000 crores in new facilities to develop India’s indigenous semiconductor ecosystem. The facilities will offer advanced semiconductor technologies, skilled talent, and a network of suppliers and ecosystem partners. The vision is to create over 1,00,000 skilled jobs, with nearly 50,000 direct and indirect jobs expected. Speaking at the occasion, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd. said, “On this historic occasion, I would like to thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for his enduring vision to bring the semiconductor industry to the shores of our country.”
