Naga community angry against world Record Bihu singer

On April 14, Assam etched its name in the Guinness World Records held at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, Assam.

The mega Bihu performance was organized for 15 minutes in the stadium, with largest number of Bihu performers in the country.

According to some reports, some groups like All Assam Naga Welfare Society (AANWS) and the All Assam Tangsa Students’ Union are not happy with lyrics sang by the singer there. The words of the lyrics have hurt the sentiments of the community, calling it racist song for the alleged words used in the song.

The lyrics of the song say: “Nogar sange sage bogai nu moi asilu..Nogai nu alu kochu khai…okora Nogake bhinihi buli matilu majoni oi Naginike bulilu bai.” (Rough translation: I was roaming in Naga houses… Nagas have potato, yam… I call Naga brother-in-law and Nagini sister.”

“We condemn the song performed by artist Ranjit Gogoi in the event to create the Guinness Book of World Records. We have noticed that Naga communities have been insulted in the lyrics of the song using the words like okora NogaNagini, etc,” AANWS president Shompha Wangsu and general secretary Manto Konyak said in a statement.
