More than 10,000 people moved to safe places in Tripura floods

Over 10,000 people have been shifted to safer locations in Tripura following relentless monsoon rains that inundated low-lying areas and triggered widespread flooding across the state. Several schools in Agartala, including Ambedkar and Vivekananda Schools, have been converted into temporary relief camps.

Ambedkar School is currently sheltering 130 families (464 people), while Vivekananda School houses 220 individuals. The state administration has ensured uninterrupted access to food, clean water, electricity, and medical care in these makeshift shelters. Special arrangements have also been made for children’s nutrition and elderly healthcare.

“We have been staying here for three days as floodwaters entered our home,” said Gita Deb, one of the evacuees. “The government should find a permanent solution—we face this every year.” Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the camps recently and directed officials to ensure smooth relief operations. Counsellor Abhijit Mallik confirmed, “Medical teams are on-site, food is being provided, and all instructions from the Chief Minister are being followed.” The IMD has issued a red alert across Tripura, warning of further heavy rain. Residents and officials remain on high alert as the monsoon continues to batter the region.
