The onset of monsoon has been delayed in the southern districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, and is now expected to arrive in the next two to three days, though the monsoon has arrived earlier in parts of North Bengal. Department of Meteorology
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Regional Meteorological Center Kolkata director GK Das said, “Preconditions are now favorable for the arrival of monsoon in South Bengal in the next few days.”
Usually, the monsoon comes on June 11, but this time it has been delayed by a few days, he added.
However, on the contrary, monsoon has arrived in North Bengal three days earlier. “North Bengal usually receives its first monsoon rains on June 7 but this time monsoon rains reached the country on June 3,” added Das.
Meanwhile, according to the Meteorological Department, rain recreation will extend over 5 districts of North Bengal – Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar during the next 5 days.
