Mizoram to explore IAF control for Lengpui Airport

The Government of Mizoram has re-constituted a working committee tasked with overseeing the maintenance and management of Lengpui Airport, with a focus on exploring the feasibility of transferring the airport to the Indian Air Force (IAF). The committee will also draft a memorandum of agreement for the proposed handover.

The committee will be chaired by Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga, MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance & Planning, with the Commissioner & Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD) serving as the Member Secretary. Other members will include senior officials from key departments, such as Planning and Programme Implementation, Home, Law & Judicial, as well as the Additional Secretary of the Finance Department and the Director of GAD’s Aviation Wing.

In addition to these core members, the Chairman has the authority to co-opt other officials or non-officials as invitees for committee discussions. Non-official members will be entitled to a sitting allowance of Rs. 1,000 per session.The committee’s mandate includes evaluating the potential transfer of Lengpui Airport to the IAF and drafting the necessary legal agreements for the transition. The tenure of the re-constituted committee will be three months, starting from its inaugural meeting.
