Mizoram Sports Minister & Public Works Department Minister denied MCC violations claims

Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar and Public Works Department Minister Vanlalhlana have denied allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the upcoming Village Council and Local Council elections on February 12.

Both ministers were served show-cause notices by the State Election Commission after the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) accused them of breaching MCC provisions. The complaint alleged that Vanlalhlana was seen campaigning from his ministerial office for Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) candidates in Aizawl’s Durtlang local council, with a video clip circulating on social media.

The MNF also claimed that Hmar had violated the MCC on January 27 by announcing development plans and upcoming projects while meeting ZPM candidates in his constituency. In response, Hmar addressed a function at the ZPM office on Monday, asserting that he did not announce any new projects. “All these projects have already been approved by the government, and they are not new,” he said.
