Mizoram Rolls Out Enhanced Universal Healthcare Program for All Residents

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma officially launched the upgraded Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), effective from April 1. The enhanced scheme introduces stricter emergency protocols and increased funding, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving healthcare despite considerable financial investment. The 2026-27 budget allocates Rs 130 crore for MUHCS, alongside Rs 26.42 crore contributed by government employees. Additionally, a loan exceeding Rs 800 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been obtained to support the sustainability of the scheme. A major change in MUHCS 2.0 involves tightening emergency care provisions. Lalduhoma encouraged the public to ensure their registrations are completed by April 15, as the scheme offers up to Rs 5 lakh for cashless treatment at government and approved private and church-run hospitals.
