Mizoram Police seize drugs worth over ₹6 crore in major anti-narcotics drive

In a major anti-drug operation across Mizoram, state police have seized contraband items valued at over ₹6 crore in multiple raids conducted over the past five days. At least 10 individuals, including Myanmar nationals, have been arrested during these operations aimed at curbing cross-border drug trafficking. On May 22, a raid by the Special Narcotics Police Station at Selesih on the outskirts of Aizawl led to the arrest of C. Zosangluri and seizure of 597 bottles of codeine. Based on her statement, police later raided a godown in Ramthar Veng and recovered an additional 1,292 bottles, bringing the total haul to 1,889 bottles worth ₹9.44 lakh.

Earlier on May 20, Lunglei police arrested one Rohluzuala with 193 grams of suspected heroin near Dawn village. The heroin is valued at nearly ₹5.8 lakh. On May 19, Khawzawl police seized 4.74 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets worth ₹61.6 lakh from a taxi at Tuisenphai check gate. In the most significant bust, a joint team from CID (SB) and Special Narcotics Police seized over 39 kg of methamphetamine valued at ₹5.08 crore from a truck at Seling on May 18. The drugs were hidden in a modified compartment beneath the truck’s iron flooring. Two Myanmar nationals — Lalkrossmawia and driver Ramropuia — were arrested.

Another bust on May 17 in Saitual resulted in the seizure of 1.14 kg of heroin (100 soap cases) concealed inside a car door. Two drivers and four others — including individuals from Assam and Mizoram — were later arrested in connection with the case.
