Ahead of Christmas and New Year’s festivities, the Mizoram government has stepped up its efforts to prevent illegal pyrotechnics and pyrotechnic materials. When Mizoram police searched a godown in Aizawl on Monday, they found a lot of prohibited products worth over ₹9.1 lakh, such as sky lanterns, firecrackers, and toy pistols with pellets that could be fired. Sahidul Alam, a native of Karimganj, Assam, owned the godown in the Dawrpui hamlet. After the raid, Aizawl District Magistrate Lalhriatpuia filed a complaint, which led to Alam’s detention and the filing of a case under Section 223 of the BNS.
Another person, Lalthawmmawia from the Chawlhhmun area, was arrested as a result of additional inquiry. It was discovered that he had imported and kept an extra Rs 1.2 lakh worth of prohibited items. In order to protect public safety during the holiday season, the Mizoram government issued a prohibitory order on November 21 that limited the import and sale of sky lanterns, firecrackers, and other similar things. This order prompted the crackdown. To stop infractions, authorities have reaffirmed their dedication to rigorous enforcement.
