Mizoram’s lone Lok Sabha MP, Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, has appealed to the Centre to set up a Territorial Army (TA) unit in the state, highlighting its strategic importance along the international borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The request was made during a meeting with Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth in New Delhi on Thursday, according to an official statement issued on Friday. Vanlalhmangaiha stressed that the presence of a TA unit would not only bolster national defence in the region but also enable the Mizo people to better understand and contribute to India’s security framework.
This isn’t the first such appeal—Chief Minister Lalduhoma had earlier made a similar request to the central government, underscoring the growing demand for enhanced military infrastructure in the state. The MP also urged the Ministry of Defence to conduct defence study tour programmes across the country for journalists from Mizoram, aiming to increase public awareness about India’s armed forces.
