Mizoram Governor visits Lawngtlai, focuses on development

Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), visited Lawngtlai District on Tuesday, where he held discussions with MLAs, Autonomous District Council (ADC) leaders, government officials, Village Council members, and NGO representatives. During the visit, he also handed over smart boards for 14 schools and provided financial aid to fire victims in Diltlang South village. The Governor was received at the Lawngtlai District Helipad by Deputy Commissioner Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy and Superintendent of Police R. Lokeshwaran. A ceremonial guard of honor was accorded at the DC’s office, attended by Adviser to the Chief Minister Dr. Lorrain Lalpekliana Chinzah, MLAs Rasik Mohan Chakma and V. Zirsanga, and LADC Chief Executive Member (CEM).

Addressing a gathering, the Governor commended Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, which facilitated the provision of smart boards to 14 schools. He also praised ITI Ltd. and Living Thoughts Organization for their role in setting up smart classrooms in the district. He emphasized that technology-driven education would enhance learning opportunities for students in remote areas. The Governor highlighted the need to electrify 13 villages in Lawngtlai that still lack electricity and urged officials and stakeholders to work collectively for inclusive development. Addressing concerns over the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Myanmar border, he reassured that recent security restrictions were aimed at preventing illegal activities and ensuring public safety, rather than creating difficulties for locals.

During a district review meeting at the DC’s Conference Hall, Deputy Commissioner Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy presented an overview of administrative challenges, security issues, and key development projects. Deputy Commissioner James Miahlung concluded the session with a vote of thanks. Later, the Governor met with fire victims from Diltlang South and extended financial assistance under the Governor’s Discretionary Grant. Nine homeowners received ₹1 lakh each, while nine tenants were provided ₹5,000 each. He directed the district administration to facilitate rehabilitation under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and assured full support for their recovery. The Governor also held discussions with MLAs and leaders from the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) and Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) at the DC’s Bungalow in Chawnhu, Lawngtlai. He stressed the need for collaborative governance and effective implementation of welfare schemes to ensure peace and prosperity in the region.
