Mizoram police have made a significant drug seizure, arresting two individuals and confiscating 4 lakh tablets of Methamphetamine valued at over Rs 5 crore. According to an official statement released on Wednesday, the operation was conducted by the CID (Special Branch) on Tuesday based on specific intelligence. The team intercepted a goods carrier truck near Kulikawn East Presbyterian Church, leading to the discovery of the substantial haul.
The seized Methamphetamine, totaling 39.257 kg (4 lakh tablets), was hidden inside 17 electric air coolers. The contraband was transported from Zokhawthar in Champhai district, located near the Myanmar border, the statement detailed.
The driver and receiver of the illicit substance, aged 34 and 28 respectively, both hailing from Champhai district and Aizawl, were apprehended at the scene. They have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
