Manipur showed its strength in Wushu at the 38th National Games

At the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, Manipur’s Wushu athletes demonstrated their strength by taking home numerous medals to boost their overall score. Marshal Salam and K Panthoi Devi took home silver in the men’s and women’s Changquan competitions, respectively, while T Saya Chanu took home a gold medal in the women’s event. In the Nanquan competition, Hanjabam Langlentombi placed second, while Y Bonish and Kongjengbam Luxmi took home the gold.

The Wushu team from Manipur earned six more medals at the Games, demonstrating the participants’ strength. They were commended for their outstanding efforts by Chef de Mission Rajchandra Moirangthem, who said they persevered and worked hard in spite of the difficulties encountered during preparation due to persistent problems. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manipur is represented at this year’s National Games by 39 Wushu competitors, including 20 female athletes. Manipur has continued to be a dominant force in Wushu since its debut at the National Games in Guwahati in 2007.

Having won nine gold, four silver, and two bronze medals at the 37th National Games in Goa (2023) and six gold, five silver, and two bronze at the 36th edition in Gujarat (2022), Manipur’s Wushu athletes have maintained a solid record in past National Games. Notably, the state has awarded the coveted Arjuna Award to four Wushu practitioners.
