In a significant development highlighting persistent security challenges in Manipur, state police arrested two members of the Arambai Tengol group for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting an Assam resident. The accused were identified as RK Khomdonsana (32) of Bhutangkhal and Lourembam Thoiba (20) from Uchathol, both affiliated with the Arambai Tengol Unit-41 Jiribam.
According to police sources, the duo allegedly abducted Ajimul Hussain Laskar, a resident of Bakhal village in Cachar district, Assam, on April 21. The victim was reportedly attacked after being taken captive. The motive behind the abduction is under investigation, though officials suspect a possible link to regional tensions and inter-state disputes. The arrests were made following prompt action by local police units, and the suspects are now in custody for further questioning. Police are probing whether the accused were acting independently or as part of a larger network.
In a related operation conducted on the same day, Manipur’s security forces arrested Sorokhaibam Malemnganba Singh, an active member of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP(PWG)], in the Wangoo Sadankhong area of Kakching district. Further tightening the grip on insurgent activities, police in Imphal West district apprehended another KCP(PWG) cadre, Longjam Tony Singh (37), near Mangal Hospital. Singh has been allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting civilians in the Imphal region. During the arrest, police seized two mobile phones believed to have been used for coordinating illegal activities.
