In a landmark collaboration aimed at strengthening tertiary healthcare access in Mizoram, Manipal Hospitals has partnered with Aizawl Civil Hospital to launch regular specialty outpatient department (OPD) services in the state capital.
Announcing the initiative on Sunday, Dr. Kaushik Biswas, Senior Consultant in General Medicine and Endocrinology at Manipal Hospitals, said the OPDs will offer consultation in key specialties including cardiology, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, oncology, nephrology, and endocrinology. He cited rising cases of chronic lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disorders as key concerns in the region.
“Our aim is to bring specialized medical expertise closer to the people of Mizoram through structured and frequent OPD services,” Dr. Biswas stated. Dr. Debraj Jash, Director of Respiratory Medicine, underlined the need for enhanced respiratory care, pointing to a surge in chronic respiratory ailments including asthma, COPD, and post-COVID lung complications. He said the new initiative would ensure access to timely pulmonary consultations, lung screenings, and follow-up care.
