Lunglei Stages Mock Drill to Assess Earthquake Response Readiness

A mock earthquake preparedness exercise was organized in Lunglei by the Lunglei District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in partnership with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday. The drill aimed to enhance disaster readiness and coordinated response, simulating earthquake damage in the Venglai area, including impacts on local infrastructure. The exercise commenced with a simulated earthquake alert at the District Emergency Operation Centre and was followed by the activation of a disaster siren. Key activities showcased during the drill included rescue operations, evacuation procedures, fire control, traffic management, and medical response. The staging area was established at the Treasury Office, while a Relief Camp was set up at the PWD Office Complex. Civil Hospital Lunglei was responsible for the treatment of the injured. Participants included officials from multiple departments, alongside teams from NDRF, SDRF, Police, Fire & Emergency Services, BSF, Assam Rifles, YMA volunteers, and Aapda Mitra. DDMA Chief Executive Officer Rochuangkimi Khenglawt praised the collaboration of all departments and the community in successfully executing the mock exercise.
